Working with Fractal

Fractal builds applications for specific market segments on the Fractal Computing framework, and sells them as a service, both directly and through channel partners. Partners can help build those applications, help sell them, or both, and are paid for every role they provide.

One framework, many market applications

Every Fractal application is built on the same Fractal Computing framework, and each one is made for a particular market segment: its data, its regulations and the questions its people ask. The applications are delivered as a service, so customers subscribe to an outcome rather than buying and running software.

How Fractal applications are builtFractal engineering builds market segment applications on the Fractal Computing framework. Two applications, Electric Utilities and Telecommunications, are built entirely in-house. The Healthcare application is a collaboration: a partner's capability is licensed into it, for that application only, and it cannot be used in another application without the partner's permission. Fractal keeps enhancing the framework, every application gets the improvements, and new segment applications are added.Fractal engineeringBuilds the frameworkand the applicationsCollaboration partnerContributes a capabilityto one applicationNEEDS THE PARTNER'S PERMISSIONElectric UtilitiesIN-HOUSEApplication logicSegment contextHealthcareCOLLABORATIONApplication logicPartner capabilityTHIS APP ONLYTelecommunicationsIN-HOUSEApplication logicSegment contextNext segmentIN DEVELOPMENTFractal Computing frameworkRELEASE NAppCapability+

The framework

The Fractal Computing software stack: the digital twin, distributed storage and computing, the multi-model database and the AI integration that every application shares.

How it works →

Market segment applications

Each application is made for one market segment, built on the framework with that segment's data structures, context libraries and workflows.

Sold as a service

Customers subscribe to the application rather than buying a license and running it themselves. Fractal operates it, keeps it current and collects the subscription revenue.

Two ways an application gets built

Some applications are built entirely by Fractal engineering. Others combine Fractal's work with a capability that a partner company already has: a domain model, a data source, an algorithm, a set of rules or a workflow that took the partner years to perfect.

In-house

Built completely by Fractal

  • Fractal engineering designs, builds and operates the application.
  • Fractal owns all of it.
  • Partners can still take part in selling and delivering it, in any of the channel roles.
Collaboration

Built with one or more partners

  • Fractal licenses the partner's contribution and builds it into the application on the Fractal framework.
  • The partner is paid as revenue is collected from the customers of that application, for as long as the application is sold under the license.
  • The license is specific to that application. Fractal can't use the contribution in any other application without the partner's permission.
  • The partner keeps ownership of its contribution, and can be a channel partner for the application too.

Why collaborate: a partner's capability reaches customers as part of a production-scale application, at Fractal's speed and cost, without the partner building or running the platform. Fractal gets depth in a segment that would take years to build alone.

Taking applications to market

Fractal sells its applications as a service, both directly and through channel partners. The distribution model is chosen for each market segment, according to how that segment buys. In one segment Fractal may sell directly to large enterprises; in another it may work through partners who already have the customer relationships, the contracts or the integration skills that segment needs.

How applications reach customers and how revenue is sharedFractal sells an application as a service directly to customers in segment A, and through a channel partner to customers in segment B. Customers pay subscriptions, and the revenue is collected. Fractal pays the channel partner for each role it performed, and pays the collaboration partner whose capability is in the application as the revenue is collected.FractalMarket segmentapplications, sold as a serviceSegment A customersDIRECTSegment B customersTHROUGH PARTNERSChannel partnerPerforms one or morechannel rolesCollaboration partnerCapability licensed into the appSERVICESERVICESUBSCRIPTION REVENUEREVENUEPAID PER ROLEPAID AS COLLECTED12345AppApp$$$

  1. 1Direct. In some segments Fractal sells the application as a service directly to the customer.
  2. 2Through partners. In others the application reaches customers through channel partners who know that market.
  3. 3Revenue is collected from the customers' subscriptions to the service.
  4. 4Channel partners are paid for each role they performed in winning and serving the customer.
  5. 5Collaboration partners are paid as revenue is collected from the application their capability is licensed into.

Channel partner roles

A channel partner can take on any of six roles, from introducing a customer to building Fractal's application into its own product. Fractal encourages partners to take every role that fits their business model, and pays for each one. The more roles a partner provides, the greater its portion of the revenue.

Each role is made up of specific services, such as account management, application deployment or a level of technical support. Each service earns a set share of the customer’s subscription in each of the customer’s first three years.

As a partner takes on each additional role, its portion of the revenue grows. The bar is illustrative.Partner's portion of revenueMOREROLES,LARGERPORTIONILLUSTRATIVE
Step 1 of 7
  1. 1Referral. Introduces Fractal to a decision-maker and attends the first sales meeting.
  2. 2Sales support. Takes an active part in the sale, through to the close of the contract.
  3. 3Reseller. Manages the account after the sale, grows the business and takes the first (Level 1) technical support calls.
  4. 4Distributor. Manages a country outside the US, with partners there providing the other roles.
  5. 5System integrator. Configures, deploys and enhances the application, trains the customer, runs “Fractal Enabled” marketing and provides Level 2 support.
  6. 6OEM. Builds the application into its own offering, markets it as “Fractal Enabled” and provides Level 3 support.

Roles combine in any way that fits. A partner doesn't have to start at referral, or take the roles in order. A system integrator might also refer and resell; a software company might be an OEM in one segment and a referral partner in another. Each role a partner fills adds to its share.

Always improving

Fractal continually enhances the Fractal Computing software stack and continually develops applications for more market segments. That work keeps paying off for partners after the agreement is signed.

A better framework

New features are delivered daily. Every application on the framework gets them, including the ones a partner helps build or sell.

More applications

New segment applications give channel partners more to offer the customers they already serve.

More collaborations

A new segment is often a new chance to collaborate. A partner's capability can go into another application under its own license, when the partner agrees.

Getting started

  1. Talk to us about your business, the segments you serve and the capabilities you have.
  2. Sign a mutual NDA, so both sides can share plans, technology and customer opportunities in confidence.
  3. Agree the roles: which channel roles you'll take in which segments, and whether there is a collaboration application to build.
  4. Sign the agreements: the channel partner agreement for those roles and, for a collaboration, the license for your contribution.
